It also includes key relationships, inside and outside the site, and the skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours that are vital to successfully achieve the role and responsibilities. Reporting to the PROJECT MANAGER, the Production Manager is responsible for managing: Proactively take the necessary steps towards achieving the safety targets set in the company policy.Drive a positive Safety Culture across site *Behaviour Based Safety_ BBSAchieve production targets as per the Business Plan or Forecast.Adherence to mine planning schedules, in quantity, quality and be actively involved in its derivationParticipate in setting strategic direction to participate in managing the delivery of that work so that profit and turnover targets of Mining Business Plan are met and securing new work when possible.Lead, organise and provide direction to Site Teams to ensure exceptional performance is achieved in people performance, HSE&Q outcomes and the business results. Actively always contribute to a positive teamwork environmentAlways communicate openly and honestlyMaintain an efficient relationship within the company, CLIENT and Business partnersMotivate employees to be top achievers DIMENSIONSThe PRODUCTION MANAGER is accountable for: Managing third party contractors and consultants (related to Tender, Budget, New Technology, etc..) KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESFunctional/Technical Duties and Responsibilities  The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and not necessarily all inclusive. PRODUCTION MANAGER’s Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Leadership & People Management :Create an empowered, productive and motivated team culture that delivers outstanding performance in all aspects to achieve a successful business performance. Co-ordinate staff to work safely, productively, efficiently, and effectively as an integrated team.Lead, demonstrate and educate the employees to embrace a work environment free from discrimination, where everyone is included and treated with respect.Provide leadership to employees through proactive management of industrial relations issues.Ensure positive behaviours and consistent to enhance TEAM SPIRIT.Co-ordinate Union /workforce negotiationsOversee the development of staff by ensuring employment and training opportunities reflect company and staff needs.Identify and procure competent staff as required by Business Plan or Succession Plan (SC).Participate and provide Strategic guidelines to Project Manager and personnel reporting to this position   HSE&Q:Responsible for the health and safety of employees and self through education, training and demonstration of the right behaviours.Ensure safe and efficient operation of the business through proactive management of the employees, procedures and processes.Ensure the company’s   HSE&Q standards are incorporated into the workplace.Comply with all applicable health, safety and environmental laws, regulations and statutory obligations alwaysReport on problems or areas for improvement Operational :Ensure planning for mining works is in accordance with Business Plan.Ensure the setting of realistic programs at planning stages.Derivation of BudgetsEnsure site programs meet budget targets and contract requirements in accordance with Business Plan.Ensure early preparation and review of yearly, monthly and weekly plans, (attend the related meetings)Review the effectiveness of the weekly and the monthly plan daily with the mining team (in-house and with the client)Attend all required production meetings and provide daily targets to the production teamsApprove monthly and weekly plansProvide necessary instructions and guidance to the SuperintendentsControl the daily data and achievementsReview of weekly/monthly reportsBe involved in the project budget costs and targetInteract with Plant department to optimize both service and maintenance of mining equipmentLoad and Haul Management :Ensure comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of Loading and hauling operations with excavators and trucks: this includes (but not limited to), Excavator set-up, floor control, dumping management, productivity optimization, truck allocation, machines utilization, Rehandling and processing plant feed…Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of haul roads construction and maintenanceBlasting management :Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of blasting activitiesProvide technical guidance to the team Drilling Management:Ensure a comprehensive, continuous, and effective supervision of Drilling activitiesProvide technical guidance to the team when requiredProduction Engineering ManagementEnsure that the data capturing system is efficiently implementedApprove the daily reports/plansLogistics and Supply Chain Manage Production stock levels in order to ensure that stock items are readily available when requirement and that stock level remains on targetProvide consumption forecast when requiredCost Control and BudgetingProvide Finance Department with the required information related to costs and budgetPropose actions to fix deviations to BudgetAnalyze Life of Mine planning requiredReports non-conformities and follow up on corrective and preventive actionsActively participate to internal or external audits, to process reviews and management meetingsChampion the preparation of the monthly operations report Subcontractor Procurement (e.g., Explosives Suppliers, Machine OEM):Ensure subcontractor procurement is in accordance with Contracts and the company’s guidelinesEnsure subcontractor performance is monitored and meets required performance standards. Ethics :Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, statutory obligations, and the company’s policy Always act honestly and with integrityRespect the values and diversity of othersAccept responsibility and be accountable for actionsAvoid situations resulting in a conflict of interest, bribery, or the use of inducements to secure business Client relations :Establish regular formal and informal contact with client so that client needs can be understood and           managed to ensure satisfaction with delivered product under the contractual terms.  Manage claims situations so client relationship is preserved. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS To be confirmed in conjunction with the right candidate.  These KPI’s will mainly concern the review and implementation of the company’s Operations and processes and systems and the implementation of the company’s overall strategic plan. Ensure all procedures are adhered to and that activities comply with all relevant government statutory Acts and Regulations. Ensure compliance to the HSEQ standards and requirements. Follow expenditure approval matrix for all operating and capital expenditure. Ensure all activities remain within budget and that exceptions are highlighted and discussed.  CHALLENGESThe clients objectives may not necessarily align with the company’s objectives and understanding and motivation of both sets of goals and outcomes need to be clearly understood and motivated. WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT Roster: 8 weeks on, 3 weeks off Hours:  As required to perform duties to a high level of proficiency. Location :  DRCWork language : French /English WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Internal : Project Manager, All Heads of Department All Production personnel from Foreman upwards and also Operations on a less frequent basis but required.External: Client Mining Manager, Client Mining Department, Client Geology Manager & Supervision SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Education/ Qualifications, Tickets, Licenses: Degree/Diploma in Mining engineering, civil works or earth sciencesRelevant Mining or Quarry Managers certification.Master’s in mining engineering, civil works or earth sciences or a MBA in Business will be an added advantage Skills: Essential :A minimum of 10 years experience in a similar position in an Open pit environment (preferably gold)Strong knowledge of drilling, explosives and blasting techniques Computer literate (Excel, Word, PPT, Access, Outlook), Surpac (equivalent), AutoCADStrategic and Assertive leadershipCommunication – written and verbalDesirable:Good knowledge in Geology, Geotechnics and TopographyGeneral Technical (maintenance) knowledge in Mining EquipmentExposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries.Significant experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control, budgeting and return on investmentNegotiating Other requirements of the Position:Essential:To act as Project ManagerTo actively participate to HR/IR Meetings (Union meeting, employees’ delegates meeting...)To actively participate to the SHE Representatives meetings Desirable :To actively assist the finance department in the elaboration of the cost control report Work Environnent :Essential :Operation running 24/7Working Long hoursRemote Sites Desirable :Business FocusFrench speaker preferabily ( or able to use Frensh as work language) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (OPTIONAL):(Include information about things such as travel expectations, working to tight and inflexible deadlines during key periods)The position may be required to relocate to other sites at short noticeOPPORTUNITIES:(Include differentiators of this role and potential future roles it may lead to.  For example – will this person be expected to back fill for the manager when they are on leave?)  The position may be required to relocate to other sites at short noticeThe role will be expected to fill in for the Project manager at certain times.There may be a requirement to fill in at other sites or at head office as required.
